The Lost Scouts - Part 4
‘Here it is...’ Mr. Smith said.
It was a big hotel with five floors and at least 50 rooms.
As they entered, John had a creepy thought that the hotel
looked like the ginormous old-fashioned mansions in horror movies.
John and his team lived in Mr. Smith’s hotel for a three days
and two nights with no news or unusual activity. But, on the third night,
something rather unexpected happened.
John was sleeping in their room. It was past midnight, around
three. Suddenly, he found Emily hitting him with a pillow in his head. Her face
was paper-white and, her eyes looked wide open and her mouth was trembling with
fear. It took no genius to say that she was panicking.
‘What happened!?’ John said. He started realizing things; an
alarming was blaring and screeching; everyone was tense. Then a vision popped
into John’s mind.
‘There will be this screeching alarm that I would turn on if
there’s a fire.’ he remembered Mr Smith saying. They hadn’t put much thought on
it that time.
‘Is there a fire?!’ enquired John
‘YES!’ shrieked Mike.
‘Mr. Smith saw the fire and ran towards the alarm and hit it.
But the fire engulfed him along with the whole of the reception. He said so in
his screams.’ wailed Peter
‘Poor Mr. Smith! He died saving us! We might end up the same
way if we don’t come up with a brilliant idea! Wait... I have an idea! Mind
you, it is truly crazy! But anything better than dying, right?’ said
Susan
‘What’s the plan?’ asked Mike suddenly springing up.
‘John! Look over the window facing the back garden and tell
whether there’s fire in there or not!’ Susan instructed.
John did as he was instructed to. The garden was burning
bright.
‘Yes, there is!’ said John.
‘Oh no! If there was no fire, we could’ve used the way to
go!’ wailed Susan.
‘Wait... The Passageway is out of danger! Its first window
is open, and it looks just safe inside it, though the fire is surrounding it
fiercely!’ exclaimed John, noticing. The Passageway was a tunnel through the
back-garden that led to the gate of the hotel. It had many windows on top; the
window closest to the Kangaroo Scouts was open.
‘YES!’ said Susan, ‘Now, get a rope!’
Mike took a rope and threw one end of it right into the
window. They climbed down through it without a word. They crossed The
Passageway and left the hotel. They saw the fire was unable to escape the
boundaries.
‘Let’s find the exit from the Jungle, Scouts!’ said Mike
encouragingly.
When they came over some distance, they saw fire escaping the
hotel.
‘RUN!’ screamed Edgar. Everyone started running.
‘We’ve got to guess the right way to the exit! If we get the
wrong guess, we are dead! I say we go straight and test our luck.’ said Mike
They ran and ran and ran and ran. They saw the sun rising.
They then spotted the wall.
‘Pray for the right guess!’ said Emily.
And they were so lucky... they got the right guess. They ran
out of the jungle. The fire was completely trapped by the long walls of the
jungle. It was the longest wall John had ever seen.
‘Is someone there!’ said a voice, who probably heard the
gate opening.
‘Who’re you?’ asked Mike.
‘I am Pally and here’s my brother Kenton. We escaped the
forests some time ago.’ she said as she and a boy came into sight.
‘I think I heard a voice...’ said a man.
Then two more people came into eyesight; the shabby guy who
had kidnapped John and the accomplice.
‘Gotta get ready for a fight!’ muttered John.
